Now with extra material

Serenity was on tv tonight. I have a couple thought. First, why don't I own this movie? I really enjoy it. Second, man Joss Whedon has no qualms about killing off anybody, does he? It's like he doesn't care how loved the character is, he's gonna kill em off if he wants too. Third, there is something really satisfying in seeing a girl kick some serious ass. Fourth, *tear* I just noticed they kept Wash`s dinosaurs. Awwwwww.01

This is the best village

So I'm thinking of applying for a direct sales job. The sales team came into class today and pitched the direct sales job. It sounds like a lot of fun. We go to small market towns, those with crap cable service, and sell them satellite. You go out for up to 12 days and are back for 5 or so then head out again. Its all over western Canada and goes from mid-April to mid-September. Now I have no sales experience but they say they can teach us that, that the most important things are outgoing and customer focus. There are a few of us from the class who are applying and I think it would be a great experience. The best part is that I get the salary I have now and my job will be waiting for me when the summer is over. I've never done sales before and that is why its a thinking, not doing. I might just apply, see if I get an interview and go from there. Hmmm things to think about.

Otherwise, I am loving my new job. The people are awesome, the trainers are totally in to it and the rest of the class is a great. Its a little strange, we all get a long. I've never had that before. There's always been cliques, even from the beginning. We get 6 weeks total of training and the 7am starts are killing me but I'm loving it.

Ha ha hahahaha. I'm watching Hot Fuzz. I love this movie. One of the best scenes under the cut.

But then it hit me

Knocked another thing off my '101' list. I went to Costco with one of the girls from work on Friday. I found some really nice photo albums, a set of 3 for $18.00. So I bought 2 sets and when I got home I sorted all my photos. Looking at them I realize, once I got a digital camera, I stopped printing photos. I have hardly about 2 rolls from when I lived in Riverbend and around 3 from when I lived in the 'Lac, but after that there are none. I got my first digital camera in the Lac, but I really printed none of the pictures I took. I need to remedy that. I think the best I'm going to get is Heather's wedding and Charlene's wedding/Mexico. The pics I took on my camera are all on my other dead laptop. That kind of sucks.

This has got me thinking of buying a camera again. Right now I have the kind of cruddy one on my cellphone, but the quality is crap. And seeing that I don't print the photos, I'm thinking of getting a regular film camera. *gasp* I know! I always loved the surprise of getting film developed. And not that I take lots of photos, but it seems like I am missing part of my life in these albums. It's a weird feeling.

I also did go and see There Will Be Blood. It was pretty awesome. And Daniel Day Lewis was utterly amazing! Man, he was so good in this movie. If the role had been played by anyone else, anyone, it would seem like a farce. The music in this one, as much as the silence in No Country For Old Men was almost a character, was a big part in this movie. I think I need to see it again, but there are still a few more movies I want to see first.

I didn't bring anything

Drive by update. Work's been busy, we're renovating the admin pit where my desk is so it's been more hectic than usual. The winter doldrums have almost set in. I've been watching all 3 seasons of Arrested Development and have been watching Futurama with the commentaries (I have a crush on John Di Maggio, seriously). Good news, heathrlee is pregant! Yay! More baby things to knit! I think I am heading to E-town for my birthday. Charlene has offered to put me up and hang out with me. And I finally get to see Lucas! Eee! I'm excited!

I've seen a bunch of movies and I feel like blabbing about them.

Johanne at work leant me the Die Hard trilogy. I had never seen them before. Die Hard was pretty good. I finally understood why he was barefoot and in a wifebeater. Made sense finally. Alan Rickman was good, but I didn't really buy him as a German guy. His accent was kind of weak. Die Hard 2 was not great. It was too much like the first one, like they were trying to just do it all over again. Not very original. Die Hard: With A Vengance was good. I enjoyed Samuel L and the chemistry (? there's a better word for that but I can't put my finger on it) between the 2 of them was great. Also movies like that, set in New York with the cars and the people and the buildings are usually pretty cool. Frenetic was a word that kept coming to mind while watching it. I have Die Hard 4, but I haven't seen it yet. This weekend I hope.

I downloaded Marie Antoinette ages ago. I watched it this weekend. What a crap movie. Really. The costumes and you know, Versailles was incredible, but the movie itself? Ech, bad. I don't like anything Sofia Coppola has done, from her terrible acting in that Godfather movie to Lost In Translation or the Virgin Suicides, so I don't know why I was hoping for more. What bothered me the most was the seeming randomness of the accents. Dunst and Schwartzman kept their American, Judy Davis put on some thick French, and other British ones. It was rather distracting.

I also watched Away From Her. When I saw the trailer I was really moved, more so than any trailer I think I've seen. I was looking forward to seeing it, but missed it in theatres here. It was good, I liked it, but I wasnt as emotional as I thought I would be over it. It was heartbreaking to see Pinsent trying to cope with what was happening to his wife, and how Christie was falling apart. The transformation from put together, elegant Lady to a shabby lady wearing an ugly sweater was really beleivable. I also loved how they dressed Olympia Dukakis in Sears clothes. She was definately rocking the Tabi style. Grrliz said it well, that they didn't try to hide Canada, or make it New York state. I liked that about this movie.

This week I have, so far, seen 2 movies in theatres. Yesterday I finally saw Juno. My love for Micheal Cera knows no bounds and I was not disapointed. I liked this movie. I laughed, I cried. Ellen Page was great as Juno, JK Simmons and Alison Janney were excellent parents. As much as I dispise using this phrase, Jason Bateman played a total douchebag, that guy drove me crazy. I was really rooting for Jennifer Garners character, literaly wishing that the baby would kick in the scene in the mall, that yes she would get the kid in the end. I was surprised it was nominated for so many Oscars, but I don't expect it to win a thing. It was good, but it's not an Oscar winning movie.

Tonight I saw No Country For Old Men. This was a good movie. Josh Brolin was very compelling, Javier Bardem was scary crazy (OMG that hair!) and Tommy Lee Jones, well I love him, he's great in almost anything. I was surprised by the bit part that Woody Harrelson had (and I kind of have a crush on him) and Kelly Macdonald? Well she's just cute. What I realized when the credits roled, is that there was hardly any, if no music in the movie but it wasn't missing from the movie. The silence worked, really well. And the shotgun with the huge silencer? Awesome! I had read ages ago that Llewelyn didn't make it to the end, but I was still surprised to see him lying on the floor. Ha, and at the end, when Chigurh gets hit by that car? I saw it coming and had a huge grin on my face. Is that wrong?

So tomorrow I am planning on seeing There Will Be Blood. I am looking forward to seeing it, I have only seen good things about this movie. So as of today, I am 12/100 for 2008!

A Real Superwoman

Mon Jan 7, 10:14 PM

Even before I really considered the 101 in 1001 I decided I was watching 100 movies in 2008. I got to I think around 85 in 2007. I wasn't really keeping track, but i think 100 is something I can definitely do. I told Shirley and my mom when I was up there and they were all on board for me. I know how indilime feels, they had a strange passion for my seeing 100 movies. That was just about all they wanted to do while I was there. That being said, I am doing pretty good so far. I've seen 5, and have as many sitting on my hard drive waiting to be watched.

On New Years Day I watched The Simpsons Movie. I liked this more than I like Superbad. Maybe because I really wasn't expecting much from it? Probably. It was funny, the story was goofy and I really haven't seen a new ep of the Simpsons in ages. I also watched This Is England. It's about an 11 year old kid, in England during the 80's. His dad died fighting in the Falklands War, he gets picked on at school and is befriended by some skinheads. I really enjoyed it. The kid in it, Thomas Turgoose, was really good. Very beleivable as this troubled kid, just wanting to fit in. I would definately recommend it.

On the 2nd after work I went and saw Charlie Wilson's War and totally went and told the manager to turn up the sound. OMG it was so quiet! Philip Seymour Hoffman's mumbling, Hanks is mumbling, and all I can hear it Amy Adams saying "Yes sir, of course sir". So I told them to turn it up. It was good. Julia Roberts was pretty cool in it, Philip Seymour Hoffman was pretty greasy (but I enjoyed it, I usually don't like him).

On the 3rd I watched Bullet To Beijing with Michael Caine. I am not sure how this movie was marketed but it was amusing for being a crap movie. Caine is an ex CIA agent in Russia. At one point he is in a smallish police car (that he and his friend just ran into) being questioned by some Major. They pull up to his hotel, the Major tells him to not break any laws. Caine goes to open his door, but its jammed closed. He looks over at the Major, he does not move, and Caine then proceeds to climb over the Major and get out his side. Man, it was much more funny than I am making it sound. Later he's about to be thrown from a train and he asks his captors "Can we wait for a slow bit?" HA!

On the 4th I watched The Natural on TCM. You know, I like baseball, I like baseball movies, I like Robert Redford, but this movie did nothing for me. Not a thing. I finally got to see at what point in the movie that clip that is always played comes from. That was nice. Oh, and I like Richard Farnsworth, he's cool. Yah, that's about all I have to say about it.

I still want to see Juno, I Am Legend, The Waterhorse, Sweeney Todd, Enchanted, and No Country For Old Men. We'll see what I actually get out to see.

Oh, and for those who want to keep track with me, my 101 in 1001 blog has been set up. Woo! 3 down 98 to go!
