Finished Socks! Woo!
Mon Feb 27, 11:38 PM
I finally finished my first pair of socks! YES! GO ME! I love them and they fit and I haven't worn them in shoes yet but I love them anyways. I used a Bernat pattern that I picked up at Lewiscraft like a year ago. Easy enough to do, really I dont know what I was afraid of. Doing the heel flap was cool, the K1S1 pattern turned out neat and I want to use it somewhere else. Maybe a scarf? The yarn I used was Red Heart Lustersheen in Ocean. It was almost a pain to work with. Its almost like working with embroidery floss. I got 1 pair out of a skein of the stuff and I have another one waiting here to be used. I may try a different pattern with the same yarn. Heh its cool, they almost came out striped. Almost

Altered coronet
Mon Feb 13, 11:10 PM
So I finally finished an actualy Knitty pattern. After drooling over the patterns when I couldnt knit, then deciding they were all to hard when I learned to knit, I finished Coronet last night. But its not a total Knitty pattern. I didnt read the whole pattern first and didnt realize that the brim is supposed to flip up. So when I got to the p1 round I thought "What the hell?", then frogged it and finished it like I thought it should be. So its a Coronet but without a flipped brim. Its made of the same wool as the red mitts are and the cabled headband is really warm. It held up to the 25km/hr winds last night. heh in that picture you can see my crap CD player and an origami star thing I made. Cool!
Now I am making a pair of socks. So far they are driving me nuts. Almost every pattern I have knit has been on at least 4.5mm needles and with at least worsted weight yarn. Well these socks are on 3.25mm needles with I think sport weight yarn. Ugh. I knit for 3 hours tonight and all I have to show for it is 4 1/2 inches. This is going to drive me nuts. But the yarn is doing fun stripey things. I didnt realize it was doing the swirly thing until I took the picture. We will see if the patterning holds out over the sock. We will also see if doing them one at a time will drive me to drink.
Also? This photo needs to have like a magnet run over it or something. If it were a real live photograph I would say it needed to be burned. I recognize that I was completely drunk at the time, but holy crap! What an unflattering picture!

Mitt disaster averted
Sun Jan 29, 02:51 AM
I finished a pair of mitts that fits and that are a good colour and dont have a seam on them. First of all I have pics of the difference in size of the 2 koolaid dyed mitts. This is the 2 mitts that I dyed with koolaid. The one on the left is one of the new ones I just knit. It was knit flat and then sewed together. The one on the right is the original one I knit in the round that is way too small. It would fit a kid.
This is the inside of the larger mitt. See the seam there? It sits on the outside of the hand, along the pinkie finger. It is totally annoying! So that pair of mitts are going to Kosovo. Shirley's church has organized a drive (I guess) for people to knit/crochet/sew cold weather clothing for people in Kosovo. I did a couple hats, 2 scarves and now these mitts will go.
Yay! These are the mitts I finished tonight. They are 100% wool (Gjestal Naturgarn in #704 if you are interested) and I used mostly the same pattern as before. I knit the hand and the thumbs to fit instead of #of rows like the pattern said. I also kitchener stitched the tops in stead of pulling the end stitches together like a hat. I like them better this way.
And see! They fit! And are warm! And red! I like them very much. I used only 1 skein of the yarn with some to spare so they are $6.99 mitts. Pretty good huh? My next thing is to make a hat, Knitty's Coronet, out of the same stuff. No scarf though. That would be way to much scratchy for me.
I am watching SNL now. The one with Dane Cook and James Blunt. How long has this Blunt bloke been around? Is it me or does he look a little possesed when he performs? His eyes look all weird. He is good live, he doesnt sound like crap. I like that. When someone sounds live like they do on their albums. Not processed. ALSO! Guess who is hosting next week? Steve Martin! I love Steve Martin! The new Pink Panther movie? If I was in the city I would see it on the opening night. I love Steve Martin and Kevin Kline? With outrageous French accents? Oh yah.

Photo Spam.
Wed Jan 11, 08:13 PM
On with the spam! Now with photo goodness. Crafty photo goodness.
First the obligitory cat sleeping on a pile of yarn shot. Yup my cat likes to sleep on yarn. And it wasnt even really soft or anything. Actually he likes to sleep on the couch that the yarn was sitting on. So really the yarn was in the way. Goofy cat.
These are the finished hats for my cousins. The grey ones are matching hats for Andrew and Trystan (father and son). I had to remake Trystans on Christmas Eve because the one I made was too small. There are the 2 cupcake hats for the girls. I ended up adding a red pom-pom to each of them. And then the headband for April. The pattern I used was the braided band from Knitty's Coronet. April asked that I make it into a hat so I will follow the pattern and finish it.
This was my night of yarn dying. I frogged 2 sleeves from the sweater and thought I could fake some self-striping yarn. It worked almost ok. The colours werent quite what I wanted but what do you expect from Kool Aid?
I dyed it in the microwave, the way I did the other stuff last year. Worked pretty well. I did both sleeves the same way and then wrapped them around the chair wrapped in a towel to dry. You can kind of see the striping there. Almost.
So then I set out making a pair of mittens. Based on this pattern. As I said before the gauge was off by only 1/2 a stich. As you can see the mitt is way to small. The thumb joints match up on my hand and the mitt but it is way too small! So now I am making mostly the same pattern but with a slightly larger needle.
Whew! Spam is good. Must go, LOST is on.

Unusually Chatty
Mon Jan 9, 11:30 AM
We had an intake this morning. It went pretty well. I did pretty well. I was unusually chatty with the students and the other staff down there. It was a little weird for me, but left me feeling pretty dam good. Go figure.
I also completed most of my list. I dyed the sweater I frogged but the colours didnt quite turn out how I had wanted them too. I used lime and strawberry so its kind of christmas coloured. I knit 1 mitten but it was waaaay to small. I am not sure why exactly. My gauge was only off by 1/2 a stitch but they would fit a child. So I started a new pair on new needles 2 sizes bigger than the other ones. So far so good. They fit! I didnt get a chance to finish them as I started them on Sunday night at 6pm while I was at the laundrymat.
I also find this funny. Since I have been xposting my entires to LJ my bandwidth has been at an all time high. Well ok so its not really funny, but it amuses my geek mind.
